Chor Leoni Receives BC Arts Renaissance Funding

For Immediate Release

Vancouver's Chor Leoni Men's Choir has received an Endowment Fund matching grant made possible by the BC Arts Renaissance Fund, a gift from the Province of British Columbia, under the stewardship of the Vancouver Foundation. The grant is a sign of confidence in the choir, according to Pete Chamberlain, the choir’s president. "We are deeply grateful and honoured, and feel truly challenged, to receive this grant from the B.C. Arts Renaissance Fund,” he said. “To us the message is clear.  Not only is Chor Leoni Men's Choir being recognized as a highly valued member of the local arts community in the here and now, but also, and more importantly, it is regarded and being treated as an important player in the future good health of the arts in British Columbia.  We will succeed in that role."

Chor Leoni, directed by Diane Loomer, C.M., is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in the male choir genre. The choir has won the CBC/Radio-Canada National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs three times, most recently in 2002 when they won an unprecedented three awards, including the hotly contested Contemporary Class.

The choir's next performance is a co-production with two other CBC champion choirs, Elektra Women's Choir and Christ Church Cathedral Choir.  They will combine forces for two performances of Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil (or "Vespers") on Saturday April 22 (Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver) and Sunday April 23 (Church of the Good Shepherd, White Rock).
