Composer Kudos

Chor Leoni is proud of the relationships we have built with some of today's most inspiring composers. Here's what they have to say about us.

Dear Diane,

I still recall with pleasure your beautiful CD with my “Irish Airman” included on it. (That CD has led to a number of performances of “Irish Airman” by the way!) . . . .

with warm regards and thanks,

Dear Diane,

Thanks for your wonderful message! Please extend my greetings and thanks to the men of Chor Leoni! . . .

“A Passerby” is profoundly informed by my love of the sea: I grew up near the Atlantic, and now I live literally a few blocks from the Pacific. I love to go and watch the sailboats gliding on the blue Pacific in the summer, and I often go down to the shore in dark weather to experience the awe of watching an ocean roiled by storm. . . .

I cannot tell you how this e-mail has buoyed me up today.

Bless you and thank you,
Byron

Diane –

Thank you so much for a stunningly beautiful performance of “Reconciliation” yesterday. The entire programme was very moving and superbly performed.

Congratulations to both you and “Chor Leoni.” Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity.

Best regards,
Steve

Diane –

Thanks again for a beautiful premiere performance of “Greater Love.” It was a very inspiring concert, well performed.

Re: “Grand Hotel.” The SATB has toured (several choirs) without an uproar over the text. It’s a simple drinking song in the long tradition of men’s choirs!

I think a TTBB arrangement would be highly effective for your purposes. Looking forward to hearing your view.

Gratefully,
Steve

Dear Diane,

What a wonderful surprise to find the package from Chor Leoni waiting for me when I returned home from Montreal a few days ago! (I spent a week there at Christmas.)

Wow… What a moving performance of “Elegy.” I was really stunned when I heard it. Diane, it is absolutely gorgeous. Many thanks to you and to your exceptional singers for presenting my work so gloriously. . . .

With my best wishes to you and to Chor Leoni for a healthy and peaceful New Year,

Frank

Dear Diane:

Congratulations! Of course I heard! In fact I heard the broadcast! How’s this for a note for your newsletter?

It is rare for a composer to be able to collaborate on a new work with the commissioners, but that’s what happened, since the idea for a “Chant to Bring Back the Light” was Diane Loomer’s inspiration, and much of the text was provided by members of the choir, not to forget the inspired performance that won the CBC Choral Competition. Congratulations! What a treat to have collaborated with such an imaginative and enterprising ensemble – and with the hope that we’ll work together again.

Dear Ms. Loomer and Chor Leoni,

Thank you very much for two excellent CDs and your excellent professional male choir! Their Estonian is perfect! (I could hear only one tiny little non-Estonian detail - otherwise I would have thought it was an Estonian choir singing!)

With warmest regards,
Veljo Tormis
