The glorious tradition of Estonian choral singing will resound as Chor Leoni welcomes renowned conductor, Hirvo Surva, and the Revalia Male Chamber Choir for Bridge of Song: Revalia & Chor Leoni on November 21.
Chor Leoni and Revalia will have spent that afternoon in a workshop together, and the audience will get to hear the results in a set of combined works that will close the evening concert, which will be opened by Vancouver’s Chor Leoni under the direction of Diane Loomer, C.M.
Revalia was formed in 1998 and in a very short time has become recognized as one of the world's foremost male choirs, winning festivals across Europe, including first place and Grand Prix at the First British International Male Voice Choral Festival in Cornwall, United Kingdom.
In addition to conducting Revalia, Hirvo Surva also directs some of Europe's most acclaimed male vocal ensembles - and the 30,000-member chorus that sings at Estonian Song Festivals! He played a lead role in The Singing Revolution, the recent movie about the pivotal role of choral music in Estonia’s inspiring rebirth as a nation.
Bridge of Song will be an uplifting example of music’s power to cross language and culture as the best of Estonian male choral singing meets the best of Canadian men’s choirs in an unforgettable evening of music. Don’t miss it!
