Vancouver’s Chor Leoni has had one driving focus since its founding twenty years ago by Diane Loomer, C.M. That focus is the creation of beautiful music that reaches across the footlights to embrace and move the audience. Originally conceived as both a birthday party for Canada’s premiere classical male choir and a celebration of Founder Diane Loomer, Chor Leoni & Friends has been rethought by the choir’s recently appointed Artistic Director, Erick Lichte.
With Loomer’s passing in December, Lichte has incorporated music Diane had already planned for the celebration, alongside iconic Chor Leoni works that so impressed him from afar while with the renowned Cantus Vocal Ensemble of Minnesota.
“For twenty years, Chor Leoni has been at the vanguard of male choral music, not just in Canada, but throughout the world,” explains Lichte. “As a long-time admirer of Chor Leoni, I wanted to bring together, in one evening, the most important and beloved music from the choir’s past twenty years. Chor Leoni & Friendswill be a celebration of the spirit, sound and enduring legacy of Vancouver’s singing lions and will serve as a joyous tribute to the work of Diane Loomer, C.M.”
Chor Leoni is delighted to welcome Shelagh Rogers as host of Chor Leoni & Friends, along with soprano Mariateresa Magisano, baritone Brett Polegato, guest conductor Robert Sund, and Chor Leoni alumni for this celebration in the stunning acoustics of the Chan Centre. With favourites from the past as well as the premiere of a newly commissioned work by Robert Sund (conducted by the composer), Chor Leoni & Friends highlights twenty years of achievement while looking firmly to a bright future!
